How has the season been so far for everyone?

HK racing is new to me, though it has not stopped me from lumping on it. I wish I had not!

This is from Craig Young,,, Sydney Morning Herald. It looks as though HK betting is going well in Australia...due in part to good information which the Aussie TABS just dont provide.

I don't detect any motivation by connections to use the "jump-outs" to hide their charges' lights under a bushel for betting purposes. It's simply financially sound to save on fees. I understand it is just too expensive to officially barrier trial a horse.

That is not to say the public's perception of racing's integrity isn't damaged by the secret trials. Racing NSW's Integrity Assurance Committee ought to be concerned over the lack of transparency with the "jump-out" issue.

Of course, these unreported trials means the club misses out on its trial fees, the insurance company doesn't receive its barrier trial premiums and the jockeys are unpaid for their rides.

But the real issue is that the betting markets are paralysed. Punters want horse form or they won't bet. That means they need to know if the runner has trialled, and the result. Sounds sensible to me.

In my opinion, betting turnover with the TAB and bookmakers on these NSW meetings has been less than half what it would have been had the trials been reported. Therefore, the pool available for prizemoney is hugely reduced.

Additionally, bookmakers can't be expected to put up attractive markets on resuming runners with unknown trial form. It seems to be a little like wearing a blindfold when others are not - you can leave me out of that!

As regards TAB turnover, Hong Kong has been the surprise packet in this quiet period. While turnover on our NSW product has been very disappointing, betting on the former British colony is going through the roof.

It is no coincidence - given that the Hong Kong Jockey Club website gives access to many things punters love, such as videos of trackwork, barrier trials and races. It also publishes horses' weights.

What a lesson for Australian racing administrators. I hope everyone heeds it.

The TAB product fee for Hong Kong races goes straight to Hong Kong, which is a source of chagrin to Australian racing.

But Hong Kong, with its effort to help punters, is entitled to be rewarded. Australians would not bet as much on their racing without that great information.

I think the task for NSW administrators should be to provide a product attractive to bet on - with full disclosure of barrier trials/jump-outs.

The obvious solution is not to charge fees for the trials, advertise them and publish the results. It would make a world of difference to prizemoney distributions and all stakeholders.

All for the good of racing.

I think once the new year ticks over we will see some of the 'better' imports come out and play. So far this year there appears a lack of quality amongst the PP's. Sure Dao Dao, Enthused, Never Look Back and 1 or 2 others have looked Ok, but nothing with the quality of years gone by has come out to play yet. Good to see Danacourt back, although it appears as though his best years have been spent nursing injuries. Dissapointing that we havent seen horses like Armarda, Champions Gallery and a few others appear yet

HK racing is rubbish. Forget about it. Try American or Aussie racing instead. Both have lengths on the dud HK racing product

Doing really well this year compared to last.

Horse is right, stick to C3+ and you'll be fine. And you will find it much easier to win at Sha Tin than you will Happy Valley also.

Sunday just gone was an easy day. Palias D'or was a certainty, as was More Bountiful.
