Ray Thomas from the Daily Telegraph brings the story today of a very rare birth in the thoroughbred world.
A pure white thoroughbred foal (Pioneering from Patchen Beauty ) has been born in Lexington Kentucky. The colt is only the 16th US bred white thoroughbred since records were first started in 1896. Usually a white foal is an albino or a cremello, depending on the genetic make-up but this colt is officially considered a pure white.
In Australia the last known pure white thoroughbred was born in 1999 but unfortunately had to be put down after breaking his leg in the paddock. Gai Waterhouse raced a pure white mare in the mid 1990'2 called The Bride. She is now at stud in WA and she has had just the one foal so far and that was born grey.
Another known white was Our White Lady (Brazen Bay - Moncharm) which was exported to the USA and is now at stud at Norsire Farm Purcelville.
