AGASSI
Agassi, a colt from the second crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Grand Slam, was the most expensive offering early in Thursday's second session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July selected yearling sale on a final bid of $230,000.
Darby Dan Bloodstock's Tim McMurray signed the ticket after opening the bidding at $200,000 and outlasting Tracy Farmer for the colt.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, the colt is the first foal out of the Seattle Slew mare Diamond Heart, who is a half sister to three stakes winners.
Bidding got off to a relatively slow start on Thursday after a fairly strong opening session on Wednesday.
With about one-third of the yearlings cataloged for the final session through the ring, the session's average was running shy of $80,000, down about 5% from last year's final session.
The session's buy-back rate also continued to run high as 37 of the 81 offerings were reported as not sold.
Jack and Laurie Wolf's Starlight Stable secured the second-highest-priced yearling during the early portion of the session when they went to $200,000 for a New York-bred colt by Hennessy offered just minutes after the Grand Slam colt. Consigned by Thomas Gallo, agent for Dennis and Debbie Petrisak, the colt is out of the Distinctive Pro mare Distinctive Cash, a half sister to Grade 3 winner Scottish Halo. - thoroughbredtimes

That price was surpassed in the closing minutes of the session. Top seller was an Unbridled's Song colt, he went to Bob and Beverly Lewis for US$700,000. Second highest price was US $500,000 colt sold to Darby Dan Bloodstock, agent. That one went through the ring shortly after the sale topper.
