Northerly's dam dies suddenly
North Bell, the dam of Northerly and North Boy, has died suddenly while giving birth to a 71kg foal. The foal has survived the birth but is in a critical condition.
North Bell was in foal to Flying Spur and was already a few weeks overdue.
Owned by Rod Dufficy, he was understandably upset by the news. Ron Dufficy, speaking for the Hong Kong based breeder said:
"He was pretty disappointed at the news. It was a very difficult birth for her because the foal was so big.
"They had to do a caesarian and take him straight to the equine centre. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do for the dam.
"The next 24 hours will be crucial for him, but if he pulls through he'll be one tough horse."
The 13-year-old North Bell missed to End Sweep last spring after gaining no issue with two more matings with Roryπs Jester.
