Former champion jockey Mick Dittman will have his first runner as a trainer during Melbourne Cup week.
Dittman on Monday was granted a training licence by the South East Queensland Racing Association (SEQRA), effectively bringing down the curtain on his magnificent riding career highlighted by his 1982 Melbourne Cup win aboard Gurner's Lane.
He has high hopes for two-year-old filly, Glass Slipper, who will make her debut on Oaks day at Flemington on Thursday week.
With 20 horses already on his books, Dittman has almost completed work on a training complex at Canungra on the Gold Coast.
In the interim his team will be stabled elsewhere which will require sanctioning by stewards.
Glass Slipper is a daughter of Rory's Jester and the Snippets mare Smidgin.
She created a huge impression when she won a Gold Coast barrier trial on October 15 by seven lengths.
