TRAINER Paddy Busuttin, whose season hit a high note in the $250,000 Queen Elizabeth II Cup last month, could be in for even better things come Nov 3.
For that is when the Kiwi handler hopes to launch a four-prong assault in the $1 million Singapore Gold Cup, which reverts to an all-local affair after going international the previous year. Last year's event, which was sponsored by New Zealand Bloodstock, was won by Godolphin's Kutub.
Besides his impressive Queen Elizabeth II Cup winner Fire House, Busuttin plans to run Bocelli in the blue riband along with soon-to-arrive gallopers Even Psalms and Fort Biloxi. Bocelli, last season's Horse of the Year, placed third to Kutub.
Said Busuttin: "Bocelli has done very well with a spell. He's come back very bright and I'm looking forward to his new campaign.
"He'll probably have a couple of runs before the Singapore Gold Cup. He'll have a long, slow preparation...plenty of time to be ready for the big race."
As for his new acquisitions, he said: "Even Psalms, like Bocelli, is by Lord Ballina. He's a winner of eight races in Australia. He'll probably have a start or two before the Gold Cup. Fort Biloxi is by Kashani. He's a smart horse who has won the last three of his six starts. He'll be aimed at the Raffles Cup on Oct 18. If he does well, we'll set him for the Gold Cup."
Even Psalms and Fort Biloxi are scheduled to arrive on Sept 20. - NP
