South African Brett Smith has been granted a four-month permit by the Singapore Turf Club to ride freelance with immediate effect until December 31.
Smith, 41, is currently licensed by the South African Jockey Club and has been riding for 23 years.
Smith is presently in 10th spot with 86 winners in the South African Jockeys Premiership. Last year, he finished 16th with 73 winners.
To date, Smith has ridden more than 620 winners including several Listed and Group winners. He goes to scale at 50 kg.
At the same time, jockey Mark Du Plessis, whose freelance permit expires on October 6, will continue to ride until December 6.
For the current year, the 26-year-old Zimbabwean has won 25 races and was placed 41 times out of 226 rides. Du Plessis goes to scale at 50.5 kg. - turfonline
