South African jockey Mark du Plessis was the toast of Kranji tonight when he won half the card of eight races.
The evening started with a bang for Du Plessis when he had armchair ride on PACIFIC CROWN (3 b.am.g Native Regent - Meb’s Genius by Beau Genius) in the Benchmark 48, Div 1 - 1,400m sprint (Race 1).
His next winner OLUITO (5 b.a.g Poliuto - State Avenue by Lucratif) bounced back to form after a lapse of 17 months to win the Benchmark 48, Div 2 - 1,400m sprint (Race 4).
Beaten on the favourite DELUSIONAL (2 b.a.g Sir Laurence - Eastview Lass by Vain Karioi) in the Juvenile Championship, Du Plessis bounced back to take the last two races on STORM RACER and SETON HALL.
STORM RACER (4 b.a.g Racer’s Edge - Storm Street by Red Anchor), who beat one home in his debut last month, showed vast improvement to win Race 7 (Class 3 - 1,200m).
SETON HALL (5 b.a.g Dehere - Humour by Sadler’s Wells) followed up on his last start success to win drawing away in the Open - 1,600m handicap (Race 8). It was his third win in 21 starts.

GRAND CANYON tops them all
Newcomers dominated the finish of the inaugural S$100,000 Juvenlie Championship for two-year-olds over 1,200m (Race 6) at Kranji tonight.
But the winner was not the favourite, DELUSIONAL, a winner of three races in six starts in Australia.
Instead, it was GRAND CANYON, a chestnut Australian gelding by Thunder Gulch out of Rebisca (by Marscay) ridden by Richard Lim who beat NINETYFIVE EMPEROR (ch.a.g Rory’s Jester - Entente Cordiale by Jackson Square) in a photo to give trainer Charles Leck a 1-2 finish. DELUSIONAL finished third.
GRAND CANYON’s dam was a winner over 1,400m and a half-sister to the stallion JACKSON SQUARE. He had cost NZ$110,000 at the yearling sale.
Mark De Montfort, who only last week was granted a MRA licence to ride for the remainder of the 2002 season, was off the mark on GOLDEN EXPRESS in the Benchmark 60 - 1,600m handicap (Race 3).
The four-year-old bay Australian gelding by Danzero out of Mika (by Khairpour) ended a series of placings with a three-quarter length win for his third success in 17 starts.
De Montfort first rode on the local circuit on a visitor’s pass in 1994, landing 14 winners. With the backing of Mylee Stable the next year, Montfort rode stable jockey to ex-trainer Seow Wooi Khiang and was credited with 22 winners with the partnership ending in October that year.
De Montfort, who has also ridden by Macau, Mauritius and Hong Kong, has an unsuccessful short stint in 2000 but with more 900 winners to his name, he is sure to pile up the winners before long. - turfonline
