Two wins in Japan so far for Whiteley
Gold Coast based jockey Chris Whiteley has had a successful start to his riding stint in Japan where he rode two winners at his first five day meeting at the Ohi track in Tokyo.
Both of Whiteley’s winners were roughies which has probably seen the Japanese punter’s sit up and ask who this Australian rider is.
One aspect of Japanese racing that Whiteley is still getting used to is the locking away of jockey’s in on track motel facilities where the jockey’s have to enter the complex by 1.00pm on the day before the meeting commences and are not permitted to leave until after the final race on the final day of the meeting.
The jockeys complex at Ohi has around 45 small bedrooms as well as a gym, lounge area which includes games and television facilities along with a sauna, spa, laundry and bathrooms and a kitchen with an on staff chef supplied.
However the jockeys are not allowed access to phones or computers which sees them cut off from family and friends for the length of the meeting with guards patrolling the complex.
The next meeting at Ohi commences on September 23 and goes for six days straight
