"Japanese horses swept all three international GI races held at Hong Kong's Sha Tin Racetrack on December 16...Applause welled up from the packed stands. There was resounding Japanese cheering, not self-satisfied, triumphant yells, but reserved expressions of deep emotion. These were the honest feelings of the fans who have continued to follow Japanese horse racing as it has grown, repeating the mantra that it needed to catch up with the rest of the world. It was also a declaration of admiration and appreciation toward the local Hong Kong racing world for International Racing Day, which has become a more and more splendid event with each passing year."
by Takashi Ishikawa Japan Racing Journal vol10 no1
That's nice, isn't it?

how bizarre -- i imagine the rest of the crowd was making enough noise to drown out the "reserved" japanese unless one was right in the middle of them.
maybe they would have made more noise if their economy wasn't in such deep doodoo. :D :p :D :p :D :p :D

I remember an old war movie where the native lackey bursts into the plantation and exclaims "Japan Man - he comes".Sounds like a rehash to me with a subtle change of spelling.Perhaps we should take an umbrella to yhe internationals in future. :D :D :D :D

And dont forget to roll up your race programme and wave it in the air in unison with the rest of the crowd to get that true " Japanese" feel to the day.

Two monsters waiting in the wings
BEWARE of monsters in the KrisFlyer Sprint.
That's the warning issued by Air Thule's assistant trainer Masafumi Matuda.
So who are the monsters?
According to Matuda, Caller One is a "very good horse".
He said: "I watched Breeders' Cup. Caller One's race. He was a monster because too strong. But I'm very happy Air Thule run with Caller One. This time, I won't think Caller One is monster because Air Thule is in the race. If Caller One wins, then is monster!"
Matuda reckons his charge is a "clever horse".
He added: "She is good, has good action. Many Japanese horses did well in Hongkong. We want to win here.
"Air Thule has never won over 1,200m. She can't sprint. 1,400m and 1,600m her best distance. End of March, she ran in a 1,200m race at Chukyo, Group 1 race.
"Before that, she never run 1,200m. Now, she understands 1,200m race. Air Thule a very clever horse. Yutaka Take, first jockey for Air Thule. He has ridden Air Thule many times. He knows the horse very well."
Well, if Matuda is to be believed, race-goers will witness two equine monsters charge up the straight in the $1 million classic a little after 8.15pm tomorrow.
