I dont have a high opinion of racing in Malaysia.

2 reasons -

1) The horses there dont seem to come out regularly for training. Its hard to study form when you dont read about horses' training and workouts in the racing publications.

Malaysian racing is just the opposite of HongKong. In Hongkong ALL horses perform public training on the tracks - even if its just a trot/canter.

2) Malaysia seems unable to rejunvate their horse population. Since Singapore raised their stakes money, many horse owners in Malaysia are switching to Singapore, leaving Malaysia with old horses.
Many of Singapore's racehorses are transferred to Malaysia when they get a little old. If this trend continue I fear the standard and quality of racing in Malaysia will decline tremendously.

Sounds like Malaysia is a bit like Macau.

On the lower rung.

I feel sorry for horses on the lower rungs of scociety.

There is not much future for the poor souls.

I see, even Macau huh.

But lousy it may be its good that 11 year old horses are still alive and kicking. And I mean winning a race - can you image this? Just goes to show you the poor quality of horses running in Malaysian Turf clubs.

Then you also have trainers taking time off and then coming back. I dont know whats going on, but I guess most Malaysian trainers are moonlighting to survive.

Just imagine this, Singapore and Malaysia used to share the same racing. Stakes were the same. Today, STC races have stakes that are almost 4 times that of Malaysia!

What is your opinion of racing in South Africa? Is it competitive. I hate their 1200 metres straight course races. Cant see who's leading as all the horses seem to be spread out and running parallel to one another. You can only tell when the field reach the 300M post or so.

" IPOH, 15 January 2007
Kuala Lumpur-based trainer Terry Tan, one of ten trainers who were granted three-month licences for the new season, has been disqualified one year.

The Stipendiary Stewards concluded an inquiry last Wednesday, which was held in the absence of Tan who failed to attend. Tan, in his absence, was charged with misconduct under MRA Rule 53 (b)(i) in that from or about November to December, 2006, was absent from the races, stables and trackwork when he had not received approval from the MRA to leave his horses with another trainer under MRA Rule 232, nor had he obtained the approval for Leave of Absence as required under MRA Regulation 36.1 and 36.2.

Secondly, Tan was charged under MRA Rule 2000(7) in that he neglected the racehorse YATTAZE BABY, which was under his care at the stables of the Selangor Turf Club. The particulars of the charge were that on Dec 28, 2006, YATTAZE BABY was found to be in a very poor body condition, had lost some 74kgs and since its last race on Sept 30, 2006, its hooves were neglected, and it was stabled in very dirty and unacceptable conditions. It was further noted that this horse had not been presented to the Veterinary Department for any type of treatment over the last three months.

Tan was, in his absence, found guilty of both charges and was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from Jan 11 and to expire on Jan 10 next year, both days inclusive. He was subsequently advised of his right of appeal. Terry Tan subsequently presented himself after the inquiry was concluded, lodged an appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards’ decision and penalty, and applied for a stay of sentence which was not granted."
