Classy Cat Strikes Again

October 2, 2006

Discreet Cat maintained his unbeaten record with a no-nonsense Grade Two success at Belmont on Sunday. Godolphin's talented three-year-old defeated four rivals in the $155,800 Jerome Breeders' Cup Handicap to register his fifth consecutive victory.

The Forestry colt, making just his second start in more than six months, broke away smoothly under Garrett Gomez and soon pulled clear of the chasing pack. Saeed bin Suroor's UAE Derby winner had the one-mile heat in the bag a long way from home and stretched clear to score by 10 and a quarter lengths from Valid Notebook.

"The jockey knows the horse well and was very happy with him in front," Bin Suroor told www.godolphin.com. "Discreet Cat ran brilliantly and always finishes his races easily. "He has the class to go to Grade One races now.

"There is either the Breeders' Cup Classic in early November or the Cigar Mile at the end of that month. "We will keep the options open and consult with Sheikh Mohammed." Gomez added: "Discreet Cat is a magnificent animal and a beautiful mover. He was a bit more aggressive but settled into a nice stride."

I like both the pikkies...did you notice how similar both pictures are? Right down to the mane, tail and ears. He looks much bigger and stronger in the second pik.

America is choc full of champions. Discreet Cat is real good but might not even be our best

Feast your eyes on the Cat and weep you followers of false idols like Deep Impact and the Squib

I thought he was mainly an Arab horse. Won in Dubai...owned by the Arabs... all his training fees come from texas tea.

He is a nice horse with a bit to prove... his true test of greatness would be to go to Japan and take on Deep Impact.

No the Cat is an all American horse. He had his first start at Saratoga and then the Arabs stepped in and bought him for millions before stealing him off to Dubai. I am sure the Cat would love to beat up on Deep Impact but I don't think his owners would race him in Japan. More likely the Dubai World Cup meeting again (plus maybe the Breeders Cup meet along the way).

Deep Impact would be welcome to try his luck at either the Breeders Cup meet or in Dubai
