View Full Version : Saratoga Sunday 27 August
All choices are listed in projected order of finish, with the highest rating starting in the race the most likely winner. If the top choice is scratched, the second choice becomes the top choice, and so on. Exactas may be considered, keying the top selection to the second and third selections. Only cold (straight) exactas are recommended; Saratoga mutuel prices are often low compared to other tracks.

Are these supposed to be negative ROI selections or positive ROI selections?

Many people just go to the races to enjoy the atmosphere and have a drink with friends.
A lot of women particularly choose a horse to bet on by it's name.
People who are professional gamblers do the form and observe the horses before the race in the paddock. They may have 'inside' information of one kind and another.
Many young people who take care of horses on a day to day basis are gambling their wages on the horse they care for. It's all for nothing if the horse isn't trying so a gambling trainer or owner can get better odds on another day.
In that case, the person who chooses to wager a small amount on the name of a horse has as much chance as the professional who knows what he's doing.
Don't betting exchanges complicate things even more? Everyone should have a chance to win don't you think?.
I see all my choices for my each way accumulator were scratched except GLORY FOR GOLD that placed. On fifty pence each way I wouldn't have won much but technically I'm a winner and I wouldn't have lost a lot, right? :) I see traynor probably had a good bet. Congratulations!

All selections are based on positive expectation data models. Rather than simplistic "averaged" mutuels. we use a strict modeling process to correct for unusually high mutuels that might distort the model. The effect is a positive expectation that is understated and conservative, rather than a skewed model based on a small sample with a few unusually high mutuel payoffs.
Good Luck :)

However, some of the shrewdest, slickest, smartest professionals I know are women. Many find handicapping horse races to be a perfect way to earn an income, and are highly dedicated to winning (as opposed to many men, who seem more interested in betting than winning).
Yes, many women select horses "intuitively," by name or appearance, rather than "past performance data." We use a decision-making process called "Delphi," that leverages multiple inputs--subjective, intuitive, AND highly logical--before making a final decision. Decisions don't need to be "either/or." They can be both, or all three, using multiple decision-making processes to arrive at one higher quality decision.
Good Luck :)
