BATTLING jockey Mohammad Hairin certainly did not mind the rain beating down on his back as he faced the starter in Race 5 at Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Given a chance to show his worth by trainer Roslan Pawanteh, the 30-year-old rode like a man possessed to boot home outsider Dominic in the Class 4 Div 3 1,200m event.
He parked the Strategic gelding slightly worse than midfield as race favourite Joker Sword, Hattrick and Cosmic Commander dictated the early proceedings.
When a gap opened in the final 250m, Dominic responded to Hairin's urging and shot to the front in a couple of strides.
Cosmic Commander and It's All Money, though, loomed up quickly to stake their claims.
In a ding-dong battle to the post, Dominic held on to win by a nose. Runner-up Cosmic Commander, in turn, finished a shorthead in front of It's All Money on a track still rated good despite the downpour.
The rain continued unabated for a good 20 minutes after the race, forcing Selangor Turf Club officials to call off the last three races.
The feature of the day - the RM70,000 ($31,500) Dato Lee Kok Chee Memorial Trophy for Class 3 Div 1 horses over 1,200m - was to have been the next event.
As it turned out, Penang-based handler Roslan went away wet but happy because Dominic was the second leg of a running double for him.
In Race 4, he took the honours with the Anandan Subramaniam-ridden Star Of Irgun.
