Hi,

I'm new to this forum; looks interesting and I'll come back when I have more time.

I publish the media guide for the Breeders' Cup and one of the sections gives the status of past BC winners. I was wondering if anyone out there knew where Last Tycoon was standing and if he is still breeding.

Thanks for any help.

LTS has always been a leader in the Japanese market for which it has been instrumental in the purchase of many top stallions and broodmares from Europe, USA & Australia . LTS has also, in recent years, arranged the lease to Japan of top stallions such as DANEHILL, LAST TYCOON, THUNDER GULCH, SPINNING WORLD, HENNESSY, PEINTRE CELEBRE, DESERT KING, VICTORY SPEECH and ENTREPRENEUR and now HELISSIO leased from Japan to the National Stud for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. In the last few years LTS has been responsible for the purchase from Japan and import to USA and Europe of several top class performers, including TWINING.

As of last year, it seems that Last Tycoon was shuttling between Blue Gum in Australia and East Stud, Japan. This year I got some conflicting information; IRB said he was not shuttling and was at Suwa Bokujo (does that mean "Farm"?) and my JRA contact said he was at Miura Farm.

The strangest thing...I went to the JAIR link sent by cheesebeast and that went to the Blood-Horse story on Ferdinand. That whole story actually came about when I was doing this same task a couple years ago, and I was getting the "runaround" trying to find out what happened to Ferdinand. Further persistance from the folks at Blood-Horse uncovered the truth.

Anyway, I can't find anything on the internet that pertains to either a Miura Farm or a Suwa Bokujo so that's what I was trying to accomplish.

Thanks for the promp help ima and cheese...I'm still looking for something a little more definite as to where he is.

I had some other info off another forum that says he was having fertility problems in Japan so may be out of service. I have written to Coolmore ( as he was Coolmore owned apparently when he went to Japan) and Ill post here if they reply.

Cheers

When Last Tycoon left Australia he went to Japan, he was a Coolmore owned horse.

His fertlility was starting to become a problem here, we were struggling to serve any great book sizes because of this problem, and at that stage he had a number of good horses going around in Japan, a decision was made then to base him in that country and no longer shuttle him.

It may be the case that this problem would have seen his stud career come to a close, maybe Coolmore could sed some light on this?

He was a really nice horse to handle and left a wonderful legacy with his many top line performers here, and it seems he will continue to do so with his daughters becoming well regarded as broodmares.

Last Tycoon moved to Miura Farm in Aomori prefecture in northern Honshu which is a local stud farm mostly producing horses for regional racing. Don't know the stud fee but obviously considerbly less than before. He moved there last September

(Kabari Miura Farm Ltd)

This more or less confirms what you heard via your JRA contact. I have asked SW to post any Japanese sites that may be out there re Last Tycoon. Stay tuned!

( btw Special Week calls the Japanese races...in English)

Thanks all for the assistance. I went to the web site for Miura Farm and noticed an e-mail address at the bottom: miura_farm@mbc.nifty.com (underscore between miura and farm)

I wonder if there is any english-speaking contact there? I'm afraid if I query them in English, they'll disregard it.

Im not sure but you can give them a try. If it doesnt work out I can get it translated into Japanese for you ( Im sure SW or another contact who deals with Shadai stud can help) and send.
