Five U.S. Yearlings Secured For Hong Kong Sale
Five yearlings secured by The Hong Kong Jockey Club at recent auctions in Kentucky are an interesting mix.

The sirelines of the yearlings are to some extent a divergence from the typically safe turf pedigrees favoured in the past. Two of the yearlings are from the Mr Prospector sireline while one comes from the Hail To Reason line through Halo and one is a son by Blushing Groom’s outstanding son Mt. Livermore whose progeny have, in the main excelled on dirt. The final yearling comes from the first crop of Storm Cat’s son Exploit a half brother to the outstanding Breeder’s Cup Turf winner Prized a N.Z based shuttle stallion by Kris S. The yearlings will be prepared in the United States before shipping to Hong Kong for presentation at the Hong Kong International Sale in December 2003.

1)Hip No. 382 @ Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Selected Yearling Sale
Purchased on July 18, 2002gr. or ro. c (USA) foaled March 25, 2001Devil's Bag (USA) - Krasivi (USA) (Nijinsky II (USA))US$80,000 (approx. HK$624,000)
The first colt is by Devil's Bag, the former Champion Juvenile and winner of eight races from nine starts. He is the sire of 40 stakes winners including two champions plus the multi-millionaires, Devil His Due, Twilight Agenda, the Japanese champion Taiki Shuttle etc. Devil's Bag is by Halo, the same sire as the multiple champion Japanese stallion, Sunday Silence. The dam, Krasivi, is a Nijinsky II daughter of La Koumia, a Group 3 winner in France and Grade 1 winner in America. Krasivi won on the track and she has so far produced two winners from two foals to race.

This individual is from the first crop by Exploit, a son of Storm Cat, the champion American sire and sire of over 20 individual Group/Grade 1 winners. Exploit won five races from six starts, including two Grade 2 events. He is a half-brother to Prized, a Breeders' Cup Turf champion. The colt's dam, Juta's Fame, by sire of sires Danzig, is a three-parts sister to Group 1 winner Classic Fame, from the family of Chief¡¦s Crown. Juta's Fame won twice at four and has bred three winners from four foals to race including Tracemark, a Stakes winner and multiple Grade 3 placed.

By the grandsire of Electronic Unicorn, last season's Hong Kong Horse of the Year, this Mt. Livermore colt is the son of the sire of 54 stakes winners and 4 champions: Housebuster (sire of Electronic Unicorn), Eliza, Peaks And Valleys and Subordination. The mare, Windansea, by Conquistador Cielo (referenced below), recorded five wins, including a Stakes race and was Grade 3 placed. She is a daughter of Sun And Snow, a Grade 2 Kentucky Oaks winner. Of the six foals Windansea has produced to race, five are winners including two Stakes performers.

Purchased on September 15, 2002 ch. c (USA), foaled March 18, 2001 Miswaki (USA) - Toy Symphony (USA) (Trempolino (USA)) US$100,000 (approx. HK$780,000)
A Group 1 winner on the racecourse, Miswaki remains the only stallion to sire the winners of the Japan Cup, Breeders' Cup Classic and the Prix de l'Arc. His influence has extended as far as Hong Kong too, viz. the victory last year by his grandson, Cheers Hong Kong, in the ING Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup. The dam, Toy Symphony, has produced two winners from two runners, including a Stakes performer. She is from the family of such champions as Queena, multiple Grade 1 winner and America's champion older mare; Too Chic, Brahms, Chic Shirine, Serra Lake; all Group/Grade 1 winners, and a host of other Group or Graded Stakes performers.

This son of the Classic-winning champion, Conquistador Cielo, the sire of million-dollar earners Marquetry and Forty Niner Days, is out of an unraced Explodent mare named Exploding Tower, who has produced two winners from three foals of racing age. A half sister to Affirmed Success, multiple Group 1 winner of over US$2million to 2002, she is from the family of Grade 1 winners Exbourne and Expelled, and the multiple Classic placed Top Socialite.
