Hong Kong three-year-old Able Choice again performed with distinction at his second start in Australia today when beaten less than two lengths in a Group two race at Flemington.
Able Choice (9/1) had an interrupted run before finishing fourth, beaten 1.7 lengths, in the $A351,500 Ascot Vale Stakes down the straight 1200 metres course.
Able Choice(#1) ran out a close 4th in the Ascot Vale Stakes.
The race was won by the favourite Innovation Girl who has won seven of her eight starts.
'He had a pretty bumpy trip,' said trainer John Moore, 'they didn't give him a lot of room and he raced a bit too freely, a bit too keenly.
'Michael (Cahill) had to hook around a tiring horse and make his run probably a touch earlier then would have been ideal but I certainly wasn't disappointed with the horse's performance.'
Moore predicted that Able Choice would be much better suited when stepped up to races beyond today's distance of 1200 metres. 'I think we learnt that today and we also know that he is well and truly competitive with the best of these Australian three-year-olds,' he said.
Able Choice will have his next run in the $200,000 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) which is a Group three race at Caulfield on September 22. 'This horse is defintely not at his peak yet, ' Moore said, 'there's a little more spit and polish we can apply.
'We'll hold him up, off the pace, at his next run and I think you will see him really getting to the line.'
