PRESS RELEASE ( printed in Lowans racebook 27/03/02)
*Now that the dust has settled after the Derby I have to make an unpleasant announcement concerning one of my colleagues, a fellow trainer. Several months ago I was asked by the media if I had purchased a horse for Mr. Larry Yung.
In good faith and to support the media in their endeavour to provide news to their readers I mentioned to the Apple Daily that I had purchased Ecclesiastical (now named Olympic Express) for Mr. Larry Yung and although he did not have Listed or Group performances I was hopeful that he could develop into a Derby contender.
To my surprise and disgust, a certain trainer responded in another newspaper that he had rejected this horse for the reason that he was not good enough. I could not understand why he found it necessary to mind my business and discredit my purchase for an important client. If he did not want to buy this horse that was his privilege and personal choice but why did he intrude into my affairs publicly.
Fortunately for me, Olympic Express gradually acclimatized and has won Group 1 races including the Classic Mile and the Hong Kong Derby.
However, that Sha Tin Loudspeaker's batteries has become very weak and he has not been honourable enough to publicly acknowledge that by unnecessarily opening his mouth he has exposed his error of not purchasing such a good horse.
Hong Kong racing is a Trainer's paradise and there is plenty to be shared by all. It is in poor taste for one trainer to be unprofessional, to mind another trainer's business. The trainer I refer to has been very successful and yet he is envious of others having a share of the sunshine. The sun belongs to everyone.
My advice to him is mind his own business but if he cannot do that then at least switch on your brain before you open your mouth and avoid the very famous Chinese saying that "until you spoke we thought you were intelligent".
The same advice is recommended to his crony who "echoes" whatever his leader blabbers.

Ivan and Kan have been at each other's throats for ages.
And they wouldn't know 'tactful' if it bit them in the ass.
Kan was a goose to open his big mouth, which he generally does, and Ivan (the control freak) was a bigger dunce for going on with it - and in a public forum.
After the Derby it might have been best for Ivan to walk over to Kan and shake his hand and say something like "probably not a bad buy after all..." And leave it at that.
Two little kids who both deserve a good kick in the ass - if you ask me.

best press release i have ever read.
thx muchly to horny harry ( although may i recommend email stripper to you ).
after reading the article i guessed the other trainer to be Kan before reading the next post. obviously ivan was a bit irritated and rightly so if the story is accurate.
nothing like a good (non physical) fight to keep one entertained so long as one is not involved.
i want to back ivan. :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Even though he never practiced Law he passed all his exams to Qualify, cant help think he would have given Perry Mason a run for his money

welcome to The Battler. do you remember the injured horse in singapore you commented on in TNHRF. still haven't sorted out what to do with it but have switched trainers.
rubntug haven't read anything about your trip to dubai. how was it or is it all too boring the 2nd or 3rd time round?

allan has been very vocal in the past year and i think its good - after all he's protecting his interests.
other examples included the vet fiasco for fairy king prawn, the yasuda kinen - trying to get fkp into the race, and the sacking of fradd.

"On the local front, Ivan Allan and Brian Kan Ping-chee will have a multiple representation following the call-ups for Indigenous and Rainbow And Gold. Indigenous, who joins Derby winner Olympic Express and Cheers Hong Kong in the Allan team, will be running in the QE II Cup for the sixth consecutive season, with his record including second behind Jim And Tonic in 1999 and third place last year.
Kan's Centenary Vase winner Rainbow And Gold joins stablemate Industrial Pioneer in the line-up for his first crack at international company."
are these the only HK representatives ?? if so there should be a lot of aggro between allan and kan as to whose horses can perform the best. now how to fan the flames?

Ivan Allan sent the same letter to all the main Chinese newspaper, nearly all of newspapers did not report it.
Looks like they all support Brian Kan more than support Ivan.

Even though he never practiced Law he passed all his exams to Qualify, cant help think he would have given Perry Mason a run for his money He only passed because Bernard Kho helped him. He didn't want to take law. He wanted to be a doctor but didn't have the marks and as for never practising law, he has never stopped practising law in the same way he trains through other people he practises law, throwing money at it until the other person has to back down and take a commercial view. His most famous case is the one he lost twice to me CLIBBERY V ALLAN. I will never take a commercial view on a point of honour!
