Grand Stand wins in its Dubai debut
In its overseas debut on Thursday, 5 February 2004, Macau's top runner, P Leyshan-trained Grand Stand won the Family & Favourites International Rated Stakes, a 1800M race on dirt, beating its six rivals from USA, GB and Ireland by three quarters of a length.
Grand Stand which is currently rated at 127 in Macau was the champion of the Macau Star of The Sand Stakes in 2001. Its most recent win was a 1600M race on sand on 11 November 2003 (See attached photo). Grand Stand is good on sand and has 11 wins out of its 32 races on sand in Macau.
Dantana which was also trained by P Leyshan ran twelfth in the Al Shindagha Sprint, a Listed race over 1200M on dirt on the same day.
Lord Nelson and Elegance Champion run second and third in Dubai
In their run in Dubai on Saturday, 7 February 2004, Macau's runners, M Thwaites-trained Lord Nelson and G Moore-trained Elegance Champion, partnered with Jockey M Du Plessis and Jockey L Dettori respectively to run second and third in the Al Riqqa International Rated Stakes, a 1000M race on dirt.
Lord Nelson formerly ran in Singapore and had 2 wins and 1 second out of its 3 races there. It will run in Macau after its races in Dubai.
Elegance Champion ran fourth in a 1200M race on dirt in Dubai on 29 January 2004. The run on 7 February was its second start in Dubai.
