I just visited the HKJC web site, and noticed that you can subscribe to the eWin gambling site. Obviosly part of the HK tote.
Interesting that HKJC is so active in trying to bar internet betting in HK when they in fact have a site themselves.
OK, the requirements for registration with HKJC site are that you must be HK resident, hold a HK ID card and over 18. Now an interesting point, If you are a Hong Kong resident and are living elsewhere, say in Aus, or Canada, then you can legally bet in Hong Kong over the internet.
But, according to the HKJC, they wish to make it illegal for HK residents to bet outside of Hong Kong.
Senario, you are a holder of an Aus passport, you live in HK and have residency and a HK ID card, then you will be breaking the law (if it is enacted through legisation) if you happen to bet with centrebet in darwin, your country.
Am I missing some thing here or is there a double standard?
Why the HKJC and government don't open up their betting facilities for all and sundry, is beyond reasonable logic. If they started on soccer betting and the meetings in HK and Macau, I'm sure there would be little concern over the falling turnover that is being blamed on internet betting.

The decisions made by the HKJC never cease to amaze me.I think some of them are made over the tenth cognac. The "royalty" that run the jockey club seem more concerned with face issues than seriously promoting racing.I think it is about time someone challenged them in the courts.

Only natural to want to protect their turnover.
Although i beleive they should go all out to promote HK racing worldwide and let HK residents bet where they want to at the same time.
Im sure most HK residents bet overseas's if they want to already and legalizing it would make very little difference. And besides i think the potential upside is much greater than the down side. with new technologies available video/radio could be streamed over the web and they already have the betting iterface, the HKJC could maybe attract many more than the few HK punters lost to online sites (remember HK only has a population of 7m vs the billions around the world).
Still i doubt this would happen any time soon - as with most non profit governmnet organizations they will be incredibly slow to move. And more importantly may put the HK admin offside with many other governments.

i believe it is virtually impossible to use the internet to allow betting from anywhere on HK racing for that reason.
questionable re allowing those with HK ID's to bet when they are living overseas. still as the bank account associated with the telebet a/c would need to be in HK the JC could argue ( legitimately ) that they were unaware of where the account holder was domiciled.
