WEEKENDS CARD (http://www.jair.jrao.ne.jp/result/main.html)

From InJAPAN

Friday, 7 November 2003: The feature of the Tokyo card is the G2 Copa Republica Argentina over 2,500m on the Turf.

Hot Secret is a tried and tested performer up against a couple of upstart youngsters - Shadow Vintage, Natural Nine and the filly Chunyi. Active Bio will also be challenging.

In Kyoto the KBS Kyoto Sho Fantasy Stakes is over 1400m on turf for the 2yo, with all the acceptors being fillies. There is an El Condor Pasa filly here - Carnival Song - who could be worth watching, Regina Girl who is by Siphon, 2 Sunday Silence fillies and 2 Fuji Kiseki.

Funny that all the acceptors for the Fantasy Stakes are fillies, seeing its a fillies only race leading up to the Juvenile Fillies G1 in December.

No mention of the likely favourite there either - Tsurumaru Sister, my prediction for Champion 2yo filly (by Dance in the Dark out of Tsurumaru Girl, making her a full sister to Tsurumaru Boy 2nd in the Emperor's Cup last weekend).

The 2nd favourite should be my (?) Field Roube (?) ( I say my, because I chose her in the 2yo game over here, but I have no idea of the English spelling). She's by SS and is the only Group winner in the field, having won the Hakodate 2yo Stakes (G3) 2nd up, but she's first up from a spell here, and her main aim is the big G1 next start. These are 2 top fillies, but as this only a trial, they might not be 100% wound up. I am guessing that they will quinella the G1 next month though...

No idea in the 2500m race (the Argentinian Republic G2). A lottery. The interesting horse is Natural Nine, as he is a NAR horse (non-JRA) and will be ridden by Mirco Demuro.

Take steers Admire Groove home

KYOTO (Kyodo) Second favorite Admire Groove romped to victory to give jockey Yutaka Take an unprecedented third straight Queen Elizabeth Cup crown on Sunday.
The 3-year-old filly surged into the lead down the final straight at Kyoto Racecourse before holding off top favorite Still In Love by a nose for its first Grade One victory.

Take's victory was his fifth of the day and 182nd of the year, a Japan Racing Association record.

Oliver and Beadman do Australia proud in Japan

Damien Oliver and Darren Beadman did Australia proud in the four race International Jockey’s Challenge at Hanshin racetrack in Japan this afternoon.

Oliver put in what was regarded as the ride of day when weaving his way through the field to land the 30/1 shot Albireo a neck winner of the A$354,000 Golden Saddle Trophy. On a day that featured the running of the Group 1 The Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, a beaming Oliver waved his whip enthusiastically to the large crowd.

Two races earlier Darren Beadman riding Biwa World was just run down by Hong Kong legend Douglas Whyte on Mayano Maurice in the A$353,000 Golden Boots Trophy (2200m).

Local jockey Yoshitomi Shibata won the Challenge with a total of 48 points with Damien Oliver second on 42 while another local Masoyoshi Ebina finished third. Darren Beadman finished 10th on 24 points but had one ride less than everyone else due to lack of numbers in one of the races.

The jockey’s introduction to the crowd before the races was as impressive as the riding performances. Each rider ran through a ring of fire with a spotlight on them into the enclosure as their names were announced.

Jockey Mirco Demuro, riding in Japan on a JRA short-term jockey's license, was handed a six-day riding suspension on November 30th, at the Tokyo Racecourse.
The suspension resulted from an interference ruling against him during the fifth race on that day.

Aboard Smart Blade in first position during the race, he suddenly bore inward in the homestretch and interfered with other horses behind him and was demoted to the fourth.

His suspension period is from 6 to 21 December 2003, inclusive. Therefore, he will be disqualified from riding in the 17th World Super Jockeys Series at Hanshin racecourse on 6 and 7 December.

A JRA jockey, Fujita Shinji will join the series as his replacement.

Take is riding high with double century for season

WORLD OF RACING by MURRAY BELL

Champion Japanese jockey Yutaka Take, who participated in the International Jockeys' Series at Happy Valley earlier this month, has carved his name even more indelibly into the record books.

Take's victory on Win Progress in the opening race of the Hanshin meeting gave him his 200th winner for the season - the first time a jockey has hit the double century in Japan.

Take held the previous season mark of 178, which he set in 1999.

The 34-year-old Take made his race-riding debut in 1987 and has been the leading rider in Japan 12 times, including a stretch of nine straight seasons beginning in 1992.

************************************************** *

Reigning Japanese Horse of the Year Symboli Kris S carved out an ending befitting a champion on Sunday when he captured the Arima Kinen (Japanese Grand Prix) for the second straight season by a record nine lengths at Nakayama Racecourse.

The four-year-old Kentucky-bred stallion has been syndicated for US$15 million and is slated to stand in 2004 at Shadai Stallion Station at Hokkaido. Not only did he toy with his 11 foes in the 2,500-metre race, but his winning time of 2:30.50 was a track record.

Japan Cup winner Tap Dance City faded to eighth while 2001 Hong Kong Cup winner Agnes Digital never challenged and was ninth.

Hamehameha too good Done easily, in record time!!

This is a good lot of 3yos.

Very poor ride on the 2nd favourite - the country bumpkin Cosmo Bulk. They need a new jock for this guy. I doubt he would have won, but he would have had a chance. Was murdered - for the second classic in a row!

So what is the story with the King? Why is he such a hot stallion prospect ( even before his Derby win)?

From: InJapan5 Sent: 31/05/2004 2:11 p.m.

Ima, he's now become the first horse to win the 3yo Mile G1 and the Derby. And both of them in a canter (well almost).

The Derby winner is always guaranteed a stallion career. Tanino Gimlett only won the Derby but stood his first season at about A$75,000. King Hamehameha has now won 6 from 7, two G1s over a mile and 2400m. Also he is by Kingmambo, and his dam has already produced a sire (The Deputy standing in the US).

I think he will be the highest priced stallion in Japan. At the end of the day, he will be promoted as not just being able to get classic winners (still by far the main aim of any breeder in Japan), but also speedy milers. Something no other stallion in Japan can offer.
