Taken from a press release issued today.
New horse weighing plan on trial at Pre-Season Carnival
The Pre-Season Carnival at Sha Tin this Saturday, August 24, will see a trial designed to produce a more accurate representation of racing weight of Hong Kong's thoroughbreds.
Body weights have in the past been recorded one and half days before raceday, but under the proposed new plan they will be re-weighed one and a half hours prior to post time in order to offer racing fans a more precise idea of each horse's actual racing weight.
These weights will then be displayed to TV viewers as each horse is paraded in the paddock as well as on the parade ring semaphore board and on our CCTV on-course.
The new system will be tested this weekend and a decision will be made early next week on whether it should be introduced in time for the season opening on September 1.
I hope the bodyweights are still made available 2 days prior when doing the form. Although the bodyweights have sometimes been branded inaccurate I still find them most useful.
