Global News 19 Aug 2002 Sprinters may clash in HK
:p Racing
Century Kid and Mistegic could both be headed for a Hong Kong showdown at their rich international meeting in December after impressing in their first up runs at the weekend.
Century Kid was far too good in the 1200m Premiere Stakes at Rosehill, while Mistegic also impressed in the 1000m Ian McEwen Trophy at Moonee Valley.
Should one or both be invited to run in the Sha Tin race, they will bump into another Australian contender – Queensland super sprinter Falvelon who has won the race for the last two years on end.
:p Mistegic power wins McEwen Trophy
Outstanding sprinter Mistegic scored a solid first up win in the Ian McEwen Trophy (1000m) at Moonee Valley. After racing handy throughout, the Strategic 4YO powered out of the turn to open up a small break on the field. In the straight, he was too strong for the late finishing mare Shaye Spice, with Aragonce third. The Schillaci Silver Arrow winner, New South Wales Horse of the Year, and runner-up to Falvelon for last season's champion sprinter award looks an even more professional sprinter this season and will tackle the Gr.1 $350,000 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 14. "He's not fully wound up yet" admitted Rosehill trainer Lee Curtis.
