SYDNEY, Aug 19 AAP - Sydney jockey Rod Quinn is the latest Australian to be lured to the lucrative Hong Kong scene.
Quinn will leave Sydney early next week after being granted a club licence by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to ride until the International day on December 15.
A mainstay of the Crown Lodge establishment at Warwick Farm, Quinn has been associated with many of the stable's best gallopers but was recently controversially dropped as the rider of last season's champion three-year-old Lonhro in favour of Darren Beadman.
Quinn has ridden more than 1500 winners and as well as being one of Sydney's leading riders for many years he has ridden in Malaysia and New Zealand as well as Hong Kong where he partnered Joss Sticks in the 1998 Hong Kong Vase.
The Australian influence in Hong Kong was underlined by John Size's triumph as the premier trainer last season and Shane Dye's effort in being runner-up to South African Douglas Whyte in the battle for the jockeys' title.
Michael Cahill and Dwayne Dunn also caught the public eye last season and will return to Hong Kong when the new term begins next month.
