Interesting post from Dropshot at Racingandsports forum about PPM ( Practical Punting Monthly)

My son is on the mailing list of Practical Punting.
He has been a subscriber to several of their "systems" in the last couple of years, having paid his hard-earned dollars on the "promotional promises" of a future fortune (despite the legal disclaimer), but sadly, has yet to achieve ANY success at all.
I became quite fascinated in his predicament, as I hate to see good money wasted. So over the last few months I have examined in some detail the systems he purchased, the basis on which the claims of success were made, and I have checked records of the selections and results over the last 12 months or so.
I also paid a subscription for one of their systems, so that I could
experience their service standards, and their "after-sales service".
The particular systems I have been tracking are shown below, and I'm sure there will be a few readers of this site who will identify with some of the names:
Solitaire
Green Light
Conquest
Diamond
Believe it or not, one of them has a capital guarantee, and when the time is up, I will be very interested to see if that promise is met.
Of all the systems listed, not one is showing a profit over the last 12 months at level stakes.
Solitaire is one selection a Saturday.
Green Light is the most diabolically unsuccessful system I have seen.
Conquest showed up early in the testing period, but has fallen away badly.
Diamond has given some thrills, but some sizeable accumulated losses also.
My examination of their methodology suggests that they are simply based on trend.
Now being on the subscription list of Practical Punting means that almost every month we receive the offer of a "new" system, designed to turn us into successful punters. But why would we need a new system if we were already rich from the previous one?
What? They didn't work? Goodness gracious, how disappointing, but just subscribe for this new one at $200, and all your troubles will be over (again)!
A month or so ago, I was invited to subscribe to Brian Blackwell's
"BLOCKBUSTERS".
From the promotional brochure, this one is the best system ever designed by the good chaps at Practical Punting. Untold riches await me! And guess what _ since its introduction onto the open market, its success has been outstanding! Winner after winner after winner! All this according to the letters I have been receiving from them on a regular basis telling me how I am missing out.
BUT WAIT, there's more!
Only this week, I received another invitation. A personal letter from "Statsman" _ a regular contributor to PPM.
Statsman tells me he has been "doing some work with Brian Blackwell's stunning BLOCKBUSTERS".
How does 81 winners from 134 selections sound? "Unbelievable", according to Statsman. Furthermore, Statsman gushes "As a writer who truly cares about our PPM readers, I recommend Blockbusters as the greatest racing system I have ever seen."
How can anyone refuse such an invitation? We're simply drooling with anticipation. We must consult our bank account to use some of those untold riches we have accumulated from the other "unbeatable" systems purchased over the last 12 months or so.
Oh dear!
There's NO profits at all from those systems. We're down about $2,000 at the moment, and counting.
We can't afford the $200 (incl P&P) for BLOCKBUSTERS. Nor the extra $60 for the selections to be e-mailed to us for the next 12 months.
A WORD OF ADVICE
Do NOT fall for this promotional drivel!
As many readers of this site have asked: "Why release a successful system onto the market if it is so good?"
Most of the PPM systems have a successful run for a while (except Green Light).
And once they reach the open market, it is obvious they lose any
competitive advantage in any case.
Forget it!
